Height Safety in Modern Logistics for Warehouses, Containers, and Loading Bays.

Height Safety in Modern Logistics for Warehouses, Containers, and Loading Bays.

Logistics is omnipresent in our daily lives. From the delivery truck going from door to door to refrigerated goods transported to a supermarket, it is essential to ensure safety in all its aspects. One of them being, of course, height safety.
The journey of a package starts in the warehouse. More and more modern warehouses are equipped with robotic racks that pick up automatically the chosen package to prepare it. The picking of the package itself no longer requires works at height, however the maintenance of the racks does.

Depending on the distance travelled by the package, it is later loaded inside a container. Standard containers’ height average is 2,59m (10 ft), with higher options existing, which can cause severe injuries in case of a fall when being inspected.

Finally, the parcel is usually loaded for the ultimate part of its journey on a truck or a train.

Fallprotec provides safety solutions for each situation. They are based on rail systems, which provide low deflection in case of a fall. This specificity is particularly important in the logistics industry given the low fall clearance usually available.

The Securail Pro is a discreet rail particularly well suited for racking system due to its small size. This rail exists in horizontal form as well as in vertical. The vertical Securail Pro can be fitted with fixed rungs to create a discreet ladder called the MastLadder. This solution is particularly suitable for containers given its reduced size.

Fallprotec also offers solutions based on a ladder type. The SafeLadder Pro integrates a safety rail in one of its uprights. This solution is useful in big warehouses, in combination with horizontal safety systems for a full worker’s protection.

For loading bays, Fallprotec has developed a specific system dedicated to this situation in which the fall distance is extremely short with no clearance: the combination of a Flexbow jib with a SafeAccess rail. The SafeAccess rail is an extremely resisting rail with virtually no deflection. Combined with a retractable fallarrester, it is the safest possible fall arrest system. The Flexbow jib enables the installation of the SafeAccess above loading trucks or trains when the structure of the loading bay does not permit overhead rails. It can be fixed on ground, wall or using a set of counterweights. Several heights are available.

Fallprotec’s safety systems have been put to use in several parts of the world in the logistics industry. To discover more about their specifics and which challenges have been tackled, you can look up our webpages about safety in warehouses and safety while loading trucks or trains.
